Hanna Gigling’s Drawings

Life Drawing

Life drawing is one of the most important and difficult artistic challenges that artists must face.

As a sculptor, drawing is my passion. Through figure drawing, I train my eye and practice my hand. The process of drawing includes variations in posture and gesture, which can help me to convey emotion and character in my drawings.

The accurate depiction of life drawing in motion is an extremely technical skill, often practiced by many of the great Masters: Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and Antonio Canova.

That’s the reason why life drawing—the strong observation of the human body and gesture—is so important to me as a sculptor and drawer. Although art goes through various trends, drawings of the human body will always capture our imaginations. The life drawings of the old Masters, like Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, Raphael, and Botticelli, possess a timeless quality. Therefore, life drawing is incredibly important to me.
